HEAD OFFICE & WORKS NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE BRANCHES: LONDON LEEDS MANCHESTER CARDIFF BIRMINGHAM BELFAST GLASGOW JOHANNESBURG OUR REF. CW. YOUR REF. DATE 17th December, 1937. Messrs Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. For the attention of Mr.Hardy, Research Department. Dear Sirs, Referring to the recent visit of our Mr.Cooper to your Works, we understand that you are experiencing trouble with Oil Seals of competitive make, which you are at present using, and we should be pleased to have the opportunity of submitting for your test further samples of our Seals, which we claim are superior to those of other makes. If you will kindly supply us with the necessary details, including the shaft diameter for which the Seals are required, we shall be pleased to send you sample Seals, fitted with sealing members formed either from Angus specially tanned and processed rubberised chrome leather, or, with moulded 'Gaco' sealing members. Oil seals fitted with Angus chrome leather sealing members are suitable for all normal conditions, i.e., where the maximum temperature does not exceed 250° F and the shaft peripheral speed is not greater than 45 ft/sec. For more arduous conditions we recommend the use of Seals fitted with moulded 'Gaco' sealing members, which will resist temperatures up to 420° F at shaft peripheral speeds of 90 ft/sec., and we would mention that our Oil Seals are interchangeable with those of other makes. We look forward to hearing from you in this connection, and assure you of our co-operation at all times. Yours faithfully, GEORGE ANGUS & Co. LTD. H.{Arthur M.
