BJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} RG.{Mr Rowledge} TESTS WITH 12¼% THIN LEAF WOODHEAD SPRINGS IN FRANCE. K3854 49941 The car fitted with these springs has completed 7,500 miles. After 7,100 miles the bottom leaf of the near side front road spring was found broken .25" from the front spring clip. The bottom leaf is being replaced with another from a spare spring and the tests are being continued. It is very interesting to note that the first failure has occurred on the road with these springs has occurred at the point which was anticipated from the bump test results. The failure of the bottom leaf is not a dangerous failure and unless the springs are examined carefully, no indication that it has occurred would be given to the driver or passengers in the car. It would be necessary to remove the gaiters before the fmacture could be seen. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
