Dear Sirs,

We have your letter of the 14th instant., and thank you for making the position clearer.

As we see it you wish in your Books of Instruction to confine your recommendations to grade names, plus viscosity numbers based on S.A.E.standards.

As you are already aware the descriptions Vis.20 and Vis.30 are used by some of the Oil Companies including ourselves corresponding with the S.A.E.readings for the same oils; in other words Motorine E and Motorine M to which we add the distinguishing characteristics Vis.20 and Vis.30 respectively actually comply with S.A.E. readings 20 and 30 respectively.

Provided the other Oil Companies whose oils you mention in your Books of Instruction are agreeable, we are prepared also for you to insert Motorine Vis.20 and Motorine Vis.30 for winter and summer respectively, whilst to correspond we in our literature will continue to print Motorine E,Vis.20, and Motorine M, Vis.30. The use of "Vis" instead of S.A.E. seems to us imperative as we are already under an obligation to Vauxhall Motors to use "Vis" in connection

(Contd.)
