WE.52.

DELCO-REMY IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR.

We have inspected and bench tested an up-to-date Delco-Remy distributor obtained from the makers.

This distributor is thoroughly representative of American practice and although it is mass-produced and very cheap it is well made and finished off accurately. Extensive use is made of steel pressings and solid riveting is employed wherever possible instead of screws. The distributor casing is a machined iron casting.

The contact breaker unit consists of two contact levers with a flat C spring riveted on to each, together with a thin section bakelite rubbing block. Thus one rivet suffices to secure the spring and rubbing block to the lever. These levers are insulated from the casing by having pivot bushes of insulating material, the lever pivots being of brass, and connection from the coil is made to the levers via the springs. The stationary earthed points are riveted to a pressing bent at right angles to bring the points into line and adjustment of the contact gap is effected by moving the whole pressing about the lever pivot as centre, the pivot also being riveted to the pressing. This movement is carried out by releasing a securing screw and turning an eccentric pin working in a slot in the pressing.
