with the 25/30 pipe no fuel flows through No.4 port right up to the extreme condition of a 1 in 3 gradient. At this gradient no fuel is flowing through the ball drain, hence a blocked drain valve cannot produce flooding in the rear cylinders.

Two Wraith pipes were tested. With each of these, fuel commenced to trickle through No.4 port on gradient of 1 in 9 1/2. In each case flow commenced after fuel had ceased to flow from the ball drain, and the flows were very small, not exceeding 1 pint/hour.

HOT STARTING ON GRADIENTS.

Both 25/30 and Wraith cars take about the same time to start (3 to 5 seconds) when hot and stopped on a gradient of 1 in 7 1/2 and require the throttle opening. Wraith will idle although strong, but the 25/30 will not do so as it is flooding in this condition.
