BRAKE CONNECTIONS. X4257 We send herewith N.sch. 1269 shewing the proposed improved joint on the brake tables. Of the 2 alternatives shown we think that fig. 2 is likely to be the most satisfactory but as the existing joint is similar to fig. 1. we should like both to be tried. Our objection to fig. 1. is shewn in a note in which it is calculated that it is impossible to put enough load on the quarter bolt to prevent the ferrule shifting and that if the ferrule does shift a few times it will become loose and the bearing will then be on the quarter bolt. In order to help this we have lengthened the jaws so as to make it possible to pull up tight on the ferrule.
