X1180 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}11/KW. 19th September,1935. Messrs. Ferodo Ltd., Chapel-en-le-Frith. For the attention of J.N. Longley Esq. Dear Sirs, We have for some time been carrying out prolonged tests of your VM.30 material in our Bentley and 25 HP. servo motors in an attempt to standardise this material. When the linings were fully floating the VM.30 material squeaked badly, but we had hoped that when they were secured by splines they would not squeak. Unfortunately we have had slight squeaks even under these conditions, so that we are still unable to standardise the material. We were wondering whether RAD-13 material would have sufficient mechanical strength to be secured by splines, and we should be glad if you would let us know your opinion on this. If you think it would be a possibility will you please send us 12 discs to our drawing EX.17177 in RAD-13. Is there any slight change that you could make in the composition of the VM.30 which would reduce its tendency to squeak without increasing its fade ? We will send you an official order for the 12 discs in RAD-13 as soon as we hear from you that you think they would be worth a trial. Yours truly, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
