X357 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}32/T231012 Mr Barrington. October 23rd 1912. RE CLUTCHES. With reference to the ¼" cotton fabric affixed by means of staples, we have had trouble with the clutch clinging which appears to be due to the edges fraying. This trouble is much worse with staples than with stitching. Fraying causes the clutch to drag by running in the oil which collects in the annulus in the back of the cone. Large staples were used for attaching fabric, which tend to make it fray more than stitching. Selvedge edges should be pushed through with all possible speed as we anticipate | ||
