GENERAL FILTERS, INC. 9001 Alpine Avenue DETROIT December 21, 1937 Mr. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Rolls-Royce Ltd. Derby, England Re: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/R.{Sir Henry Royce} Dear Mr. Robotham: We wish to thank you for the interest you have created in our filter with S. Smith & Sons. It is quite probable that Mr. Webb will be making a trip to England about the first of May, but do not see how we can make it before that time. We would like to have you get an expression from S. Smith & Sons as to what method they have in mind for handling this filter. For instance, the filter could be bought complete from the General Filters Company, or the stampings and parts could be purchased and fittings soldered in, painted and all the assembly work done in your country. This would probably give you much less sales resistence, as the product could be marked as manufactured in England. Then again the manufacturer, providing the volume is great enough, might wish to manufacture the filter complete on a royalty basis. There would be considerable advantage in buying the stampings from us, as in this way, they would be getting away from a fairly high die and tool cost. It might be advisable in any case, to have the cartridges made in our plant as we are better equipped to produce these in high production at a very low cost. Concerning prices to S. Smith & Sons. These would remain the same as quoted to you in our letter of December 7th, 1937 which are: 1,000 ............$1.50 each 5,000 ............ 1.30 each 10,000 ............ 1.25 each These prices are for the complete filter and we would not expect to get below a $1.25 in any quantity, unless there was a very great reduction in raw materials. We would appreciate you having S. Smith & Sons write us on the different points in which that are interested. In this way, we can both become more acquainted with requirements and details. Very truly yours, GENERAL FILTERS, INC. A.{Mr Adams} D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Redner ADR:IS | ||
