Kirkstall Road,
LEEDS.

Dear Sirs,

REAR SPRINGS TO PRINT F.7973.

Referring to the interview which the subscriber had with Mr. G.Alfred Woodhead on Friday last, 27th ultimo, and to our conversation by 'phone yesterday, we particularly desire that the main plate of the rear Springs you construct to above mentioned print shall not exceed 7/16" thickness when ground ready for assembling.

During our conversation by 'phone yesterday, you informed us that you would probably find it necessary to have the Steel rolled in two thicknesses, namely 29/64" and 27/64" which when ground ready for assembling would measure approximately 7/16" and 13/32" respectively, and these thicknesses would be satisfactory to us.

We shall be glad if you will let us know, as soon as possible, whether with these thicknesses of main plates the pound-ages mentioned in the list which appears on print F.7973 can be obtained without increasing the number of leaves and, if so whether the over-all depths of the springs when assembled given in the list above referred to, can be maintained or whether it will be necessary to alter same.

The subscriber reported that you have undertaken (unforeseen circumstances excepted) to commence delivery of rear springs of the new pattern ( print F.7973) on 15th November next at the rate of 45 pairs per week. He has also reported that it will be necessary to carry on with the present pattern of rear springs to the 150th chassis and that all these springs will be delivered (unforeseen circumstances excepted) by 15th November next.

We shall be glad if you will let us know, as early as possible, what the prices of the new pattern rear springs will be.

We quite realise that they will be somewhat higher than the present pattern, although the basis price for the steel will
