Kingsbury.
March 10th, 1937.

I have received your memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}2/R.9.3.37.

Hamilton in one of his reports on and after the 22nd of October 1936 states that he had discarded the front expansion box, therefore, I am not in a position to contradict his verbal statements upon his return to Derby that he had done so. I should very much like to have five minutes with Hamilton to clear up several things. The exhaust questions require some enlightenment. I found upon my arrival at Chateauroux a new standard front silencer which had been sent out for 22.G.V. which had not been fitted at all, the flange was still loose waiting for alignment before being welded. This box has been used for 6.B.IV. after the failure of the one fitted prior to the car leaving Derby. It would seem that Hamilton did not fully report on what he did, other than the deturbulated head tests and springing tests.

In view of this, upon leaving I. Waller in charge this time, I have insisted that all reports shall be sent to me first so that I can check them, also that he still took his instructions from me, so that I could advise him what rotation work, mileage etc. could be arranged. The position at Chateauroux becomes hopeless when several persons are issuing instructions. I have at the moment a letter from I. Waller asking why he is being choked off by myself, Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls} and Whyman.

With regard to the reports, 6.B.IV. Daily Reports arrived here in one bunch, the post evidently having gone wrong somewhere. They were, after my perusal, forwarded on to Derby immediately.

With regard to 3.B.IV, this car was left in Paris, by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s, and my own arrangement, until it was possible to deal with it at Chateauroux. Upon 35-EX going up to Paris to have the rear axle attended to 3.B.IV. was to take its place temporarily at Chateauroux, therefore, no report could be issued for 3.B.IV. until it arrived at Chateauroux. Waller now reports that he has taken the car to Chateauroux. When 35-EX rear axle is finished 3.B.IV will return to Paris so that 35-EX mileage can be finished and that in the meantime Sr. can be running a small percentage of mileage on 3.B.IV.
