The testing and standardisation of a new fabric coupling for the 40/50 HP car.

The fabric coupling which will be used on the 40/50 HP. car and also the necessary modifications to the start parts, will be identical to those which we are fitting to EAC. 'V' series cars. The only variation is the adaptor which joins to the engine. At the present time the fabric coupling and starter parts are running in France on the EAC. car (98-NK). The 10,000 miles on that car should be completed in three or four days. We think that test will have proved the reliability of the fabric coupling. We have, however, still to check that the fabric coupling is effective in overcoming the faults complained of on the 40/50 cars. We pointed out to you sometime ago that we have no standard 40/50 car at the Works which has these faults. We therefore require a car to fit a set of parts on to. We have a complete set of parts ready and if the car is sent to Derby, we should be able to return it in a week. By that time the 10,000 miles will be completed and we consider, after that, there is no reason why the car could not be delivered to a customer. The Expl: Dept: of course, cannot take on the number of cars. They would have to be dealt with by the Works. We are anxious, however, to have supplied to us one car which has this definite fault so that we can prove the effectiveness of the coupling and get it standardised.
