X.3513 - BAKELITE PRODUCTS.

Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} is going into the matter of obtaining bakelised linen or bakelised cotton rods in this country.

We have in the Expl. Dept. samples of Bakelite-dilecto, Continental Bakelite, and Bakelite-micarta (paper), upon which samples we are making certain chemical, physical and machining tests. The names used by the various American suppliers of these products appear to be according to the following table :-

Supplier. Fabric. (Cotton or linen) Paper.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Continental Fibre Co. Continental Bakelite. Bakelite-dilecto.
Gen. Elec. Co. "             "
Westinghouse Co. Bakelite-micarta. Bakelite-micarta.

We also have in the Expl. Dept. some Condensite Celeron blocks with both canvas and paper bases - these are very similar to Continental bakelite and bakelite-dilecto, respectively. We are not certain whether Mr. Royce has seen samples of these and are therefore sending one of each along. These were received (through R.R. Inc) from the Diamond State Fibre Co.

We have also samples of two qualities of Paxolin in sheets. These have been obtained from Micanite & Insulators Ltd., Walthamstow, having been manufactured
