Re: 0.940" Steering.

Reference memo. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}I/W.2.10.26.

Commenting upon memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/LG.30.9.26, I cannot think my memo. Ps.I/Crn.27.9.26, has been correctly read, or perhaps my argument perfectly followed.

I said that I was doubtful if the 0.940" steering is a satisfactory cure in all cases, which is entirely different from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s version of it, i.e. that the 0.940" steering is worse for shocks.

I also said that I thought in some cases the old steering, with 1500 lbs. side steering tube springs, was as good, or appeared so, to the man at the wheel, as the 0.940" steering.

My memo. describes the experiences of the Marquis del Llano, and suggested that, although I could not personally get a high speed wobble, if the Marquis continued his complaint, we may have to go back to the old steering with 1500 lbs. s.s. tube springs.

I still think that the 0.940" steering does not entirely cure the joggle. Some cars are better than others, but whilst the shock is reduced - to quote my memo. again - we still get some nasty road shocks.

Ps.
