Referring to the complaint that the cartridge type fuse on the Phantom III Chassis, can be placed between adjacent clips instead of into its proper position, we are of the opinion that one of the major causes of this fault, is the inaccessibility of the distribution board in its present position in the centre of the dashboard and immediately behind the carburetter air silencer. A remedy for this will be to re-arrange the units on the dashboard to bring the distribution board on to the offside, and immediately accessible when the bonnet is opened. A further contributory cause is the cartridge type fuse itself. To spread out the fuse clips to prevent this trouble would involve a distribution board of much greater dimensions. It is doubtful whether the advantages claimed for the cartridge type fuse, justify its existence, and we would recommend the return to the open wire type, which is still standard on 25/30 HP. production chassis, but of a modern design with moulded bakelite centre piece, and designed so that it can be reloaded without the aid of any tools whatsoever. In the opinion of the Service Depot, the open type fuse is preferable. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
