Starter motor failure caused by flood water, with a suggestion to drill drain holes in the casing.

This car would appear to have been used during the very wet weather of last winter, apparently running through the floods, because the starter motor failed in engagement.

We removed the starter motor pinion and found it badly rusted in the spindle. It would be better if some holes were drilled in the casing to drain off the water from the pocket where the pinion lies.
