bumpers and any other novelty demanded as necessary for American manufacture.

With regard to the subject of bodies, our impression from Sales is that the Cabriolet is one of the most popular types of body and although it is objectionable on technical grounds we think our testing should include the use of this type of body. It is doubtful, however, whether a satisfactory second-hand cabriolet body could be obtained, and it may be necessary to order a new one.

With regard to the last paragraph of your note, we take it that you do not suggest that all testing of all parts should be carried out with landaulet bodies under the conditions stated, and that this requirement only refers to the testing of those novelties or parts which may possibly be affected by the type of body used, for example the testing of a new air pump or ignition system could not, we think, be affected by the type of body used, whether landaulet or open body.

The only closed body we have had available since the War is one which is in the Test Dept ( at present running on extended trials of pistons). This body is of the enclosed driver type of seven seater, with a partition behind the driver seat, but is not at all representative of a modern body. This body is being used at the moment also in connection with our spring tests.

If you would agree to the above programme, for experimental cars it will help us very considerably.
