Dear Mr. Nutt,

Re Miss England 11.

I thank you for your letter of yesterday's date. I did not see Mr. Ellor again after the inquest yesterday and I am advised this morning that he has returned to Derby. Before leaving, however, I understand that he prepared a statement embodying the testimony of himself, Wilcocks and Green relative to the mechanical condition of the boat up to the time of her leaving on the record attempt last Friday. This statement I understand was signed by all three men concerned. If possible I suggest that everything vital contained in this statement should be crystallised in a proof of evidence, which can be given by Mr. Ellor at the adjourned Inquest, and the proof sent to me. I will then forward it, in due course, together with the other proofs to the Coroner. I do not see any point in going to the trouble of having Green, and the other mechanic to whom you refer, at the Inquest if the whole thing can be dealt with by Mr. Ellor, as seems quite probable in view of the elasticity of the rules of evidence at Inquests. Wilcocks has not yet been able to see me but I am incorporating in his statement, evidence covering the mechanical efficiency from the time the boat left the beach up to the moment of the capsizing. I have prepared Mr. Cooper's statement in draft but I cannot complete this until his theories have been confirmed or otherwise by the raising of the boat, which is not likely to be before
