Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter ref. JWH/FW. of the 22nd inst. The dynamo in question was thoroughly bench tested satisfactorily before being put on the car and we were careful to note that the wiring on the car was also carried out satisfactorily so we regret that we cannot see any reason for a fault occurring due to the short circuit or an open circuit on the field resistance coil as stated in your letter. In any case a short circuit due to the regulator angle piece touching the frame of the dynamo would be apparent owing to a burnt mark being noticeable on either of these pieces. As far as we know there was no such evidence.

With regard to the load on this dynamo, we still wish you to set the regulator for a load of 200 watts as it is possible when using 60 watt headlamps for this load to be put on the dynamo.

We note you are returning this dynamo to Stuttgart and await with interest their comments on the cause of this failure. We trust that you will expedite the matter from your end as much as possible.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
