To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} c. HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth} 406. BRAKES - BENTLEY III CHASSIS. With reference to memo HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}26.2.38, as far as it concerns brakes. We agree to the following items being changed, and have ascertained that action is being taken. (In some cases a new design is being issued which alters the whole picture) :- Items 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 20, 34, 35, 37, 39 (new design). We are not in agreement with the following suggestions :- 4. The suggestion of deleting 2 bolts to save money necessitates re-sinking the stub axle die. We do not think it worth while. 32. This complaint to be tenable should emanate from the test section. We have a spring to prevent fidgeting of the hand brake, which is undesirable. As on half the controls of the car, a knock can be obtained from the hand brake lever if it is used abnormally, not otherwise. We are looking into the question of a rubber buffer as you suggest it but it may entail more expense in modifications than you expect. 36. We agree with you that the centre bearing must be deleted to ease manufacture but would like to point out that we have had a complaint of "sponge" in the brake pedal to cure which we removed the servo star springs. The deletion of the centre bearing does not make our job any easier. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} | ||
