X4926 To DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn {Mr Robinson} Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn {Mr Robinson} /LG15.11.27. EAC.14. SPRINGING. X8410 X235 With reference to DAL/M11.11.27. We observe that you do not want the coachbuilding clearances altered from N.sch.2494 and are acting accordingly. The question of hitting the buffers is rather involved and we shall not know exactly where we stand until the car gets to France. We know however it is largely a question of damping employed. The difficulty so far has been that if we fit Hartfords and hydraulics we shall have to allow for the man completely slacking off his Hartfords and then driving all out with 4 passengers and luggage. Under these conditions 10-EX car will hit the buffers at present. We want to endeavour to avoid going to stiffer rear springs as we have found out that with those at present fitted we get rather harsh riding after 5000/6000 miles due to the interspring leaf friction increasing. We hope that the hydraulic dampers with the increased velocity pressure factor which we are developing will assist us in solving this problem. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn. {Mr Robinson} | ||
