Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Clutch Pedal - SpectreCodename for Phantom III and Bentley. With reference to N. Sch's 4404 and 4435 in which the pedal is held back against the floorboard by a spring, your department has pointed out that the existing spring for the felt pad will overcome the main pull off spring and prevent the complete return of the pedal. We suggest that the best remedy for this is to reduce the strength of the pad spring to say 1 lb. This will leave a balance of 2 lbs at the pedal plate. It is a simple matter to increase the load of the pull off spring but this should not be done unless found necessary. We give below particulars of a spring which should be suitable for both the SpectreCodename for Phantom III and the Bentley Spring for Felt Gas Seal on Pedals. Mean diameter. .550" Dia. of wire. .028" No.of effective coils. 7. Total No.of coils. 8. Length in Position. .500" (SpectreCodename for Phantom III N.Sch.4404). .725" (Bentley N.Sch.4435). Load in Position. 1.17 lbs (SpectreCodename for Phantom III). 1.00 lbs (Bentley). Max stress (corrected) 80000 lbs/ sq.ins. Free length. 2.150" Length choc-a-bloc. .220" Rate. .75 lbs/in HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
