Comparison of a Lucas machine's output curve and physical characteristics against a Rolls-Royce 40/50 machine.

This curve has been reproduced upon one of our 40/50 forms and curves from our own 40/50 machines have been added (dotted) for direct comparison. A blue print of this set of curves is attached.

In comparing the Lucas output curve with the others, account should be taken of the following facts :-

The weight of this particular Lucas machine is 36.5 lbs. whereas the weight of our own machine is 31.0 lbs

The temperature rise setting of the Lucas machine is a few degrees higher than the 620° setting of the R.R. machines.

It will be seen, therefore, that the R.R. output is no less and, in fact, greater than that of the Lucas machine on a strictly equal basis of comparison.

With regard to E's remark to the effect that we are getting more output from the dynamo by reason of the two-rate charge scheme than we otherwise should, the amount of this is not very great, in fact scarcely more than one ampere more and it corresponds to a temperature rise setting on peak output of about 65C° in place of what used to be 58C°.
