To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X1140 RL/M8.1.27. BONNET FITTINGS - CLIPS AND LOCKS. X.8260 X.1140 X.7260 X.5260 Our older 40/50, bonnet clip and lock was not really up to RR. standard. Our 20 HP. was better, but never sufficiently corrected, but as fitted to RAC.7. when further corrected, could be made distinctly better. I await with much interest our third model recently schemed at WW. I hope this will be tested at Derby very soon. It should be carefully criticised, and if necessary corrected, or abandoned in favour of an improved 20 HP., as the critics think best. Lock. The design of lock requires some further work before we construct it experimentally. There seem many weak features, and some short-comings. It should stay on the drg. board, and I will also send my criticisms in about two days. In the meantime see what you can do to make it more robust, or an improved scheme. Something should control on the lock barrel exactly one turn. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
