Replying to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M11.1.28. Below is a note from Mr. Maddocks, Production Test Dept. as regards accessibility of gearboxes :-

"It is our practice with 20 HP. chassis to take down gear boxes without removing the engine.

This is necessary where attention to the gears is necessary, as the box has to be returned to the Works, and also when attention to the clutch is required. We should much prefer the gearbox to be easily removable and do not want to have to remove the whole unit. The time required to remove a 20 HP. unit is four times that required to remove the box only."
