Dear Mr.Sparrow,

In case you do not remember who I am, I came to have a talk with you in March 1937. At the time you were just developing a new in-line eight engine. We think that your designs everything which we should like to utilise, but naturally think the nine bearing job is much more expensive to produce than the five bearing job of Buicks.

As a result of your experience, we wonder whether you could possibly tell us:-

(1) Whether the nine bearing job comes out appreciably heavier than the five bearing job. Obviously the crankshaft is lighter and the crankcase heavier.
(2) Do you find the 9 bearing job more susceptible to torsional vibrations than the 5 bearing.
(3) How do the two compare for general smoothness.
(4) Do you find you run higher oil temperatures than the five bearing engine.

We appreciate that these queries may appear some-what presumptuous, but if there is any technical information we can give you in return, we shall be only too happy to do so.

Yours sincerely,
