in the overhanging balls under reverse stress, and the efficiency of the way in which these are riveted into their levers. Supposing for instance that the end is not a tight fit, or the hole is defective when the piece is riveted up, it is impossible to tell whether it is a close fit behind the collar. I do not like the overhanging ball with a collar, but prefer a much deeper boss on the lever, and a taper end and no collar, which permits the Inspector - even after riveting up - being pretty certain that the pin or ball end is properly fixed. Then I am sure also that the section of the lever in the immediate vicinity of the boss is not at all suitable for the torsion and bending, caused by stout .750" overhang.

In making the above remarks I am looking at DES.1522. which may consist of a lot of earlier work, but may also include proposed new work. If tests prove any weakness the design should be improved, or if increased strength can be given without much increased weight it should be done now before making.

Some of the parts also seem poorly arranged mechanically.
