You will no doubt remember our conversation re the wear of grooves in pistons, and of thickness of rings. The following are the measurements taken of one of a set of pistons after a mileage of 26,227.- Cylinder bore wear .0145" oval .0105" Piston skirt clearance .004" top. .003" bottom. Top ring clearance .004" 2nd. " " .003" Scraper ring clearance .003" Top ring average wear .0015 2nd. ring " " .0005 Scraper ring " " .001 It is apparent from these measurements, there is no need in service to worry about oversize rings in regard to width.
