We enclose herewith for your examination the new washer received with your memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.5/MH.{M. Huckerby}18.2.38. It has given repeated trouble of sticking so that the cap was very difficult to undo. This appears to be due to the ridge which has been formed on the rubber. We have replaced the original washer which did not give any trouble due to sticking, and no ridge formed on the face. The water level in the new matrix has now settled down to the same as the old, just at the bottom of the filler spout when hot. When cold it can just be seen in the top water pipe but does not reach the bottom of the filler spout which dries out. Unless definitely instructed otherwise, the appearance to an owner would be that water requires to be added, if he looked at it when cold. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M.
