Our idea in specifying the 1250 acid for the first charge, is largely founded upon the fact that it is much more practical to order acid of one density only and make use of this acid for all battery purposes. We are convinced that it is desirable to change the acid after the first charge and by doing this, the density is automatically put right.

2. On the instructions on the batteries we have, the first charge is given as 3¾ amperes for about 40 hours, which agrees with what we have given in our sheets. We have not received from the Chloride Company any newer instructions than these.

We have proved over and over again that the capacity of a battery is materially enhanced by carrying out the first discharge, as recommended, before placing the battery in service on the chassis, where it may never have a chance of completely discharging. A complete discharge definitely improves the condition of the battery by increasing the amount of useful active material.

Altogether we do not think that any improvement in our instructions can be effected.
