To EY. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} CJ. S E C R E T R2/M29.11.24. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. X. 8770 X. 8305 X. 8230 Mr. Hives is very keen to get the fabric coupling on the EAC. engine as soon as possible. We have therefore in re-designing the exhaust system made allowance for clearing the sequence starter motor. To do this we cannot use the front silencer, but we do not see any reason why a silencer behind the ejector, which we have arranged in addition to the main silencer which we have increased, should not give an exhaust system as silent as when the front silencer is used. Apparently much of the trouble is due to the fact that we can hear through the piping. We shall send you in a few days this modified exhaust system which we hope will be suitable for 'V' series, so that the exhaust will not be in the way of our fitting the sequence starter, as soon as we get it satisfactory.
