For the attention of Mr.Winser.

Dear Sirs,

Further to our letter of 7th. inst., since writing same we have discovered that an error was made in determining the figures for H.P. absorbed by the fans in the various tests. Actually the figures should read as shown on attached sheet.

We have now done further running on the belts made by our suppliers over here (known as "Ferogrip" belts) and the results are interesting. As mentioned in our last letter, the first belt of this type tested burned inside out after 4 hours due to cord breakage - the second belt of this type tested, did likewise. It was then discovered that the belts we were testing were from a batch supplied originally and made up on the maker's experimental equipment, and accordingly we obtained belts off their production equipment which is now in action - the production belts are naturally more accurately made than the original experimental ones. The first production type belt of this "Ferogrip" type has run 30 hours and is still running, so that this represents a big advance on all other tests to date.

We have still to make tests on the British Goodyear belts and repeat tests on "Ferogrip", Gates and Dayton Cog belts and will let you have the results in collected form when available - in the meantime, the "Ferogrip" belt has set up a standard which you might like to beat - if so we shall be pleased to test any new type belt you can send us.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
