Re. Bentley Cars on Brooklands.

Last Friday 30th. June, Bentley cars numbers 2, 3, and 4 (Green Saloon, Blue Coupe, and Open Touring Car) were taken to Brooklands by Messrs. Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}, Th., and Lld. Messrs. S., M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore}, Ck.{Mr Clark}, Th., and De/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}, were present from Sales.

Our report No/114.S/12.4.7.33 gives the results of running all the cars on the track.

The other points which were discussed were as follow:-

(1) Engine Gear Noise. - He demonstrated the worst condition for engine gear rattle on all three cars. It was considered that on the Blue Car and the Open Black Car the noise was such that we should expect a customer to complain. The Green Car was not free from noise, but it was hoped that no production cars would be worse than that and that we ought to endeavour to make them better. He pointed out that we thought the Green Car standard was the best we could anticipate with the present design, but that the Works were going slowly on easing gears and we hoped to have an improvement which would be fitted to the later cars.

(2) Air Silencer. - A demonstration was made on two covered cars with and without the air silencer fitted to the carburettor. Messrs. S. and C., were convinced that without the air silencer the noise inside the car was unpleasant and would be complained of by the customer.

(3) Front Wings. - This matter was discussed and it was agreed that we should press forward with the adoption of the front wings as fitted to Bentley 3 which had increased our top speed. It might be necessary however to show cars with the more sporty looking wings.

(4) Hub Caps. - It was agreed that we should adopt the hub caps with the hexagon nut in place of the winged nut on the L.W. wheels. This should be engraved with a suitable 'B'.

(5) Finish of Engine. - It was left to us to finish off the car which is to run 10,000 miles with the most economical and satisfactory finish, with an endeavour to try and make it look different to the 25 H.P. R.R.
