X. 8320 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from A.J. Stent. S E C R E T. ST2/M15.8.24. c. to CJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. 2. LOCATING PLUNGERS FOR THE SIMPLIFIED STRIKING MECHANISM. <del>X.8320</del> We send herewith LeC.1908 shewing the above. The locating plunger scheme consists of a drop forged steel housing for the plungers, with an aluminium screwed on cover to house the projecting ends of sliders. To facilitate the assembly we have held the springs on the plungers by means of their outer collar guides, with a small washer rivetted in position on the plunger spindle end, the spring being in a set [up] condition. When these plunger and spring units are dropped into position an aluminium cover is held on the top and bottom of the steel housing by two nuts each, and should be made to compress the plunger springs approximately a further .050" through the medium of the collar guides. We shew an alternative radius to the plunger spherical end, and shall be glad if you will instruct the two radii shewn with varying strengths of spring. A.J. Stent. | ||
