Coverley - Production Engineer} x302 Plan Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/HP.2.10.35. SpectreCodename for Phantom III - Rear Axle Pinion. Herewith is N.Sch.4651 shewing the strengthening of the drive to the rear axle pinion by increasing the taper to 1 in 8 and increasing the woodruff keys. This scheme is a temporary one, using the existing pinions. The increase of driving torque is 91½% from the taper alone, the keys having an increase of 61%. The torque provided at .200 coefficient is 4.4 times the 2nd speed torque. We are about to issue a final scheme, in which the increase of torque will be 108½%, that is, 4.86 times 2nd speed torque.
