1328 Experimental Dept. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}4/MH.{M. Huckerby} 10th. July, 1939. Messrs. S.Smith & Sons Ltd., Cricklewood works, LONDON, N.W.2. For the attention of Mr. Eckford. Dear Sirs, With reference to our Bentley V thermostats to EB.3776, we recently had a failure on one of these instruments and find that when the bellows is punctured the valve is not off its seat to any appreciable extent, with resultant high coolant temperatures and block pressures. We should be glad, therefore, if you would look into this job with a view to modifying the bellows design to give say, .100" opening when the bellows is punctured. We do not consider that less than this would be satisfactory, but a greater opening would be quite acceptable. We should also like a thermostat filled to give a running temp. of 110°C and should be glad to have this as soon as possible. An official order will follow in the course of a post or two. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
