TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH WEST WITTERINGHenry Royce's home town - 6.11.31.

ex/2c/HP. EXHAUST MANIFOLDS.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was asking us how far we had progressed with the design which had been submitted for detailing to Lec. 2697, showing sliding glands on the exhaust manifold with a non-expanding bar of material along the back of the manifold to ensure balance conditions being produced on the engine.

We explained the position was that we had completed and issued the whole of the details for this scheme on Novr. 3rd., and that drawings were in the Pattern Shop, being under consideration at the moment.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} pointed out the extreme urgency of this matter from their point of view and asked us to see that the Works were going slow on the production type manifold. We have therefore written the Works asking them to only meet their actual requirements with the production type.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} confirmed that they were just finishing off the P.II single carburetter design in its reconsidered form, and that he would like us in the near future as soon as they with WW. work, to go ahead and produce the Japan III design of this type which we promised to do quickly immediately WW. put us in the position to do so.
