Trot Salt - Carburation}2/MA.11.3.35. SPECTRECodename for Phantom III CARBURATION. TEST BED DEVELOPMENT. We wish to ascertain, by a series of straight forward tests, to what degree the complicated induction system on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III engine can be simplified. These tests will be carried out on a 25HP. six cylinder engine. We wish to obtain answers to the following questions :- (1) The relative merits of two carburetters against a single carburetter, working on a bank of six cylinders; with regard to slow running; pick up; distribution and power output over the whole range. (2) The relative merits of a single horizontal carburetter, against a single downdraught carburetter, bearing in mind the points mentioned in (1). Further in this test, to compare a single downdraught Stromberg carburetter, which for reasons at present unknown is reputed to give good slow running. (3) Twin downdraught "Solex" carburetter for this test, the metal induction pipe shown on Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1818 (already instructed) is needed. (4) Single horizontal carburetter, using a position inclined to the induction pipe. The modification shown on Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1822 (already instructed) is needed for this test. (5) Four port induction system; comparing single carburetter against twin carburetter scheme. A series of tests will be carried out on this arrangement, as, if it could be made to work, it would allow the use of two simple horizontal carburetters in the vee on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III engine. In conjunction with the above tests, effect of degree of hot spot to be tried relative to different arrangements. | ||
