STEERING ON PARIS TRIALS CAR - 107-TC.
---------------------------------------

Replying to PN{Mr Northey}/JP21.2.27. The steering on 107-TC is made to exactly the same designs as all other Phantom cars fitted with the .720" lead nut, until the latest cars with the lightened axle.

We have realised for some time the differences in the degree of irreversibility of steerings made to the same designs. Experimentally we can overcome it, but there are no approved schemes for doing this.

As regards the specific complaints on 107-TC. Road shocks would be relieved by fitting 1500 lbs. springs in the side steering tube, and change of worm and nut.

The want of selectivity may be due to the rear springs, rear shock absorbers, pivot lean, or the bedding of nut and worm. The chief factor which controls the quality of the steering is the fit of the nut and worm.

If it is possible, we should recommend changing the steering for one off another known good car.
