We are getting together a tool kit for this car.

We find that if we use a 5/16 nut on the tappet, that the standard 5/16 spanner is not suitable for getting at the lock nut. It cannot be got on in all positions. Also the end of the spanner is too large and fouls the dog [handwritten: holding] over the tappets so that the spanner is liable to slip off. It either means making a special spanner which we think would be unwise because it would most probably be used on all 5/16 nuts, also we want to avoid making extra spanners because as it is, we find the tool kit for the Goshawk will be larger than the 40/50.

In view of these points we have tapped out a ¼ nut for a 5/16 thread. We are sending you a sample. Will you please let us know whether you approve.

The other features we are asking for as regards the Tool Kit are :-

1. At present there is no means of withdrawing the friction flywheel off the end of the crankshaft. As this is fixed on a cone and we wish it to be fixed tightly, we think some means should be provided for withdrawing it especially as on the Camshaft we have a permanent with-drawing arrangement.
Attached herewith is a sketch in which you will see we propose the left-hand thread to be turned on the existing piece, all we should then have to provide is the nut and the existing nut on the end of the crankshaft could be used to withdraw the piece.

2. We are also asking that the hexagon on the nut on the end of the crankshaft should be slightly reduced in size so that it will suit the spanner which is used for clutch spring retainers.
