1020a? THE ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT Co LTD TELEPHONE: SOUTHALL 2424 (17 LINES). TRADE MARK SOUTHALL MIDDLESEX TELEGRAMS: "VANGASTOW PHONE SOUTHALL." YOUR REF. OUR REF. CE/GDR/GD. PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL. 20th May, 1938. - Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr. Robotham, Referring to our conversation relative to selling cost per lb. of our chassis when you were at these works yesterday afternoon, and your subsequent 'phone call to-day, I enclose herewith a copy of our passenger data sheet, and on taking our most popular oil engine 4-wheel double deck chassis, i.e. the "Regent" our usual selling price is not as listed but less 25% making a price of £1,070. I think if you worked this out for the complete chassis weight given of 3 tons 19 cwts 2 qrs. it equals 2/5d. per lb. I regret that the figures I quoted to you yesterday were not accurate, but we have recently been pricing a lot of our models and I was somewhat confused both in weights and prices between goods and passenger models. The figure I quoted of 2/6d. per lb. is slightly on the high side for this particular model. We have certain 8-wheel goods models which for no apparent reason we obtain an enhanced price and these vehicles come out round about 3/- per lb. but I anticipate that our manufacturing costs for the "Ranger" chassis we manufacture would not vary more than 2d. per lb., but as I am not in possession of these figures, I cannot confirm them.
