X8410 c/o Messrs. All British Motor Co.Pty.Ltd. 109-113 Russell Street, MELBOURNE. Pt.6/FP{F. Potts} 6-10-26 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Derby. I am in receipt of your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LG 19/7/26, for which I thank you, and in reply to which please note the following :- Trouble has arisen with chassis No.42G1 and 77A2 with the front engine suspension, which has taken a permanent downward set - due most probably to rough road conditions. At first these tubes were warmed and re-set, but later new tubes were fitted. I suggest that considerable extra strength without much increase in weight could be given by fitting liners where the tubes are bent. In chassis Nos.74-AO and GA-40, trouble has arisen through the tubes which enclose the push rods becoming perforated, and allowing water from the cylinder jackets to percolate into the Sump. In each of these cases new cylinders have been fitted, but this seems to be an expensive method of dealing with the trouble. Could not Works give the necessary instructions to enable repairs to be carried out here instead of sending cylinders home to Derby to be re-conditioned? Other general complaints which have occurred during the last twelve months are as follows :- Tendency for engines to overheat: Road springing being on the low side: Shock absorbers inadequate to meet with their work under Australian conditions: Effect of road unevenness on steering wheel - particularly in 20 h.p. chassis and New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I chassis: Small diameter of steering wheels on all models: Absence of power pump to blow up tyres on all models: Need for slightly greater wheel base and slightly greater horse-power in 20 h.p. model: Absence of a permanent instrument board fitted and finished at Works on all models. We have had one case of a Phantom with seized glands on water pump. Pt. | ||
