X.3573 RE. MOULDING OF ELECTRICAL FITTINGS.

I have to-day forwarded to Mr. Royce a sample of an armature commutator which has been made by Messrs. Crompton & Co. Ltd., Arc Works, Chelmsford, and which they have been using for some time in connection with a contract for fans, and which they state has been very successful.

The material they use for this moulding is called "Formite" and as far as I can make out, it fulfils all the conditions which we require in our electrical equipment.

I was able to obtain this information from a friend of mine, who appears to be the Works Chief, and whose name is Morgan. I have arranged for a visit to their works to be made, and they state they will be pleased to give us any information possible.

I have therefore informed Mr. Clark, who is at present in London, to take full advantage of this, as no doubt such a visit would be useful.

They certainly seem to have carried out a lot of pioneer work in connection with stampings and moulding for producing cheap and efficient electrical equipment, and their experiencein this matter should be useful to us.

Please arrange to return this commutator to me as soon as ever possible, so that I can have it returned to Messrs. Crompton.

Mr. Morgan informs me that these commutators have run at 3,000 revolutions without any signs of failure.
