X.2976.- FLOW OF LIQUIDS THROUGH ORIFICES & PIPES.

You will remember having made a suggestion in your memo E2/B16.2.17. of obtaining a set of curves giving the effect of increasing ratio of length to diameter in orifices.

We have considered this matter but we cannot offer anything of any value in the absence of actual experiment owing to the uncertainty of/value of [handwritten: the] coefficient of friction as applied to passages of very small dimensions.

What we now propose to do is to make some experiments on the flow of petrol through orifices. This will be a comparative simple matter and can easily be done.

The orifices we propose to have made are a set of 9 as follows

3 of one length with 3 different sizes of bore.
3 of a second length with [handwritten: the] same 3 sizes of bore.
and 3 of a third length of the same three sizes of bore, as in accompanying sketch.
