X.4260. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Dal/M1. 9.24. RE. 20 HP. CHASSIS FRAME TIES. X.4260. We thank you for your BY/C8/H29.8.24. We are very doubtful about the frame stiffener. We understand that this was not fitted to 5-G-11. Was it fitted to 68-GF., the car with the body underframe? We were satisfied with the improvement obtained on these two cars, and if neither had the sriffener we think it very doubtful whether the additional complication, weight, and expense, will be justified. The diagrams on F.52766 lead us to think the improvement will take place at the rear end of the frame only, by using the stiffener, and though it is something, it seems doubtful whether it is enough to justify the stiffener.
