WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LTD., LYMINGTON HANTS WORKS TELEPHONE LYMINGTON 520 WORKS TELEGRAMS "WELLWORTHY" PRIVATE TELEPHONE LYMINGTON 232 MANAGING DIRECTOR'S OFFICE 1256 JH/KES 30th March, 1939. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. My dear Robotham, Thank you very much for your letter of the 28th instant and we are going to make up the first set of pistons on the 3½" Leyland for our own lorry. We shall do as you say and increase the compression ratio by one ratio. I am looking into the question of what the exact ratio is and will let you know more about it when I have the job running. With regard to the provisional specification, as soon as Blackith comes back (unfortunately he is away with 'flu), I will get him to go into the matter and see Walford & Hardman Brown and talk it over. There is one point, however, it seems to me you will have to restrict it to petrol or alcohol fuel, because there have been all sorts of weird and wonderful cylinder heads and pistons for Diesels. I am having this looked up. Talking it over with Mr. Spurrier with regard to the trial on the Leyland, he says "you may be able to get your patents through on petrol engines, but I doubt whether you will on Diesels. We have tried every form of head". It therefore may have to be amended but we will take advice on this from Walford & Hardman Brown when they have looked up the position. Yours sincerely, | ||
