Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of November 19th, addressed to our City Office, which has been passed here for attention, in connection with the protection of sheet steel accumulator boxes. The matter is a somewhat unusual one and we should, therefore, like the opportunity of a few days discussion with the research authorities before replying, which we will do as soon as we possibly can.

In the meantime, we are wondering whether lead coated steel in the form of terne plate has been definitely ruled out for this purpose. This organisation deals primarily with sheet and pipe, and has, therefore, very little specialised knowledge of the lead coated sheets, but it would appear that this form of protection would in the present circumstances give service which cannot be expected from any form of paint, which must be not only less sound as a protection in itself, but far more liable to abrasion.

In the same way, we are wondering whether you have considered metallic spraying of molten lead, rather than lead as a paint carried in some form of oil vehicle.

We thank you for putting the problem up to us, and hope to be able to make some satisfactory suggestion.

Yours faithfully,

TECHNICAL INFORMATION BUREAU OF
LEAD INDUSTRIES DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL.
