Beryllium Bronze for Valve Guides. -------------------------------- We have now received as pointed out yesterday, 6 ft. of the above material for the manufacture of valve guides. The makers inform us that the best qualities of this material can only be obtained by a suitable heat treatment, but the heat treatment results in the metal being somewhat hardened namely, having a brinell hardness of about 350 and therefore it is recommended that the heat treatment is carried out after rough machining and before grinding. The heat treatment recommended is to quench either in oil or water from 830°C. and then temper at 350°C. the parts being held at this latter temperature for one hour. BY [Signature] | ||
