SECRET. 113 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHG. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} E.4/HP.24.5.37. G.W.H What about this Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Wraith Dynamo Drive. With reference to your memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CWH.10/JH.22.5.37, concerning the rubber coupling drive similar to 25/30, Bentley and Phantom, I am attaching herewith a memo E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner}1/HP.5.5.36 which showed that this job was being sent out on production cars in such a condition that it was likely to give trouble at that time. A considerable number of cars must have gone out like this and possibly this is the cause of the complaint that has arisen. This same drive on 10,000 miles tests has never been criticised. I also attach a copy of Sft.{Mr Swift}1/DR.15.5.36 which refers to the slackness in this coupling causing engine gear rattles on production, and written in reply to E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner}1/HP.5.5.36. We should like to know, therefore, if the drives complained of were correctly fitted up in the first place. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ATT: | ||
