No. 819 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG11.12.23. of air which passes through which counts. In order to reduce the floor and scuttle temperature the following modifications should be made. These items are given in order of importance. (1) Pedal slots including cut-out pedal must be stopped off. Another frequent source of leakage for the hot gases are the joints between the floorboards especially the joint at the dashboard because these are frequently cut by the coachbuilders for speedometer drives and other accessories On EAC-lll cars, there are new type clutch and brake pedals which avoid any gap - there is no alteration however in the exhaust cut-out pedal. We think it is essential that a new scheme is got out for operating the cut-out to avoid any gap. If we are prepared to sacrifice some of the pedal movement on the present cars we could fill in the slots with the existing pedals. The disadvantages would be that we should have to adjust our - brakes more frequently but as the adjustment is on the side of the frame and remarkably convenient to get at, it would be no real difficulty. We are running Expl: cars like this. The brakes on the 40/50 car which ran 10,000 miles did not require adjustment until they had run for 9,000 miles. As the average speed of that car was high, we can assume the brakes were used much more than on an average car. The temporary leather flaps which we are now fitting to cover the slots do not remain sufficiently effective. (2) Alteration to Undershield. The gearbox undershield on contd:- | ||
